Spring Training Travel Tips

Each year, visitors flock to Valley of the Sun to attend Spring Training games. If you are flying in to cheer on your favorite baseball team this Spring, please be aware of the following travel tips to ease your journey.

Before You Travel

  • If you are planning to rent a car, be sure to make advance reservations. Spring is a busy time for travelers and inventory may be limited for walk-up customers.
  • Check what is in your bag. Familiarize yourself with the TSA’s policies on carry-on items. Visit tsa.gov for the complete list of items that are permitted and prohibited.

Leaving Phoenix

  • Important tip: If you purchased a souvenir Spring Training baseball bat, please be aware that it must be placed in your checked baggage as souvenir bats are prohibited as carry-on items.
  • • Arrive at the Airport at least two hours before your flight departs.
  • • If you are flying American, Southwest or US Airways and returning a car or riding the Valley Metro Light Rail, you can take advantage of a convenient service – Early Bag Check. This service allows you to check your bags before boarding the shuttle or train to the Airport terminal. The service is free though airline bag fees still apply. Early Bag Check is also available at East Economy Parking.
  • • Did you know Sky Harbor offers free water bottle re-filling stations post-security? Simply bring an empty water bottle and fill it once you pass through the security checkpoint.
  • • Visit skyharbor.com on your mobile device once you are at the Airport to check flight status and see which shops and restaurants are near your gate.
