Freeway Closure to Impact Airport Entrance, Exit This Weekend

Freeway Closure to Impact Airport Entrance and Exit Weekend of Jan. 29-Jan. 31.

Motorists traveling to the Airport on interstates this weekend may encounter detours because of highway maintenance, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Traffic headed eastbound on Interstate 10 will be detoured to southbound I-17, or the Stack Interchange, and will not be able to access the Airport from the western entrance during the closure, which will take place from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.

This closure will also prevent drivers from accessing the Airport using State Route 51 southbound and the Loop 202 westbound ramps to I-10 eastbound, which will also closed.

A second highway closure from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday will cause the closure of Interstate 10 westbound between I-17 (Split Interchange) and Seventh Avenue. The westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard ramp to I-10 will be closed, so motorists leaving the airport will have to either exit to the east or onto surface streets.

SR 51 southbound and the Loop 202 westbound ramps to I-10 eastbound will closed again during this period.

The Airport can be accessed from the west via Buckeye Road at 24th Street. Drivers can also drop off or pick up passengers at the 44th Street Sky Train® Station and have easy access to all terminals for free.

As always during construction, allow extra time for travel.
