City of Phoenix Aviation Department Chief Counsel Awarded ‘Member of the Year’
Award bestowed for ‘extraordinary contributions’ overseeing the Diversity Legal Writing Program
Jo Ellen McBride, Assistant Chief Counsel for the City of Phoenix, will be given the 2017 Member of the Year award for ‘extraordinary and exceptional’ contributions to programs and activities of the state bar in 2016. The award will be presented at the 2017 State Bar of Arizona Annual Convention in Tucson, June 14-16, 2017.
Ms. McBride is being honored for her leadership and achievements, since 2001 as Chair of the Diversity Legal Writing Program. The Diversity Legal Writing Program provides diverse second-year law students with practical experience at private law firms in Maricopa County, Arizona during the spring semester. This Program is a joint project among the State Bar Committee on Minorities and Women in the Law, Maricopa County Bar Foundation and private law firms in the Phoenix Metro area. The award was established in 1991.
Since 2003, 180 students have participated from ASU College of Law and AZ Summit Law. The scholarships awarded total $801,000.
Ms. McBride has worked for the City of Phoenix since 1992 and as legal counsel for the Aviation Department since 2002.
