Quick action by Phoenix Police Airport Bureau Officers and Phoenix Fire Station 19 resulted in the 40th Automated External Defibrillator (AED) save at Sky Harbor. On Thursday, September 23, an employee was found not breathing at the American/US Airways Hangar. Officer Ed Bauer quickly arrived on-the-scene to assist.

Upon arrival, he saw fellow airline employees administering CPR, and then took over rescue efforts. Shortly after, Officer James Perry arrived with an AED. A shock was applied and then officers continued CPR until the individual began breathing on his own.

Phoenix Fire Station 19 arrived and continued with lifesaving measures before transporting the employee to a nearby hospital.

Fire rescue staff commended the Officers for their quick actions at saving this employee’s life.

Phoenix Sky Harbor, Phoenix Deer Valley and Phoenix Goodyear airports have more than 85 AEDs available. Additionally, more than 2,000 Airport employees and volunteer Navigators have been trained to administer CPR and correctly use AEDs in the event of an emergency.
