Historical Flight Path Data

In 2014, the FAA modified departure and arrival routes serving PHX without proper environmental analysis, public outreach or coordination with the City of Phoenix. The FAA’s action ultimately led to the City of Phoenix and several Historic Neighborhoods filing a lawsuit in 2015 against the FAA. In 2017 the United States Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the City and Neighborhoods. Between 2018 and 2020 the FAA implemented the Court’s decision by holding public workshops and then redesigning and implementing routes that approximated the airspace conditions prior to the FAA’s action in 2014. The following information provides background on the FAA’s 2014 airspace changes, the litigation itself and the resulting corrective actions stemming from the Court’s ruling.
