2025 Year-end Air Service Developments Wrap-up

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport marked another year of strong air service growth in 2025, highlighted by new international options and expanded domestic routes from several major carriers.

American Airlines:
American Airlines added twice-daily service to McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, California, on Feb. 13 and began nonstop Saturday service to Appleton, Wisconsin, two days later.

International service also strengthened when American resumed its daily nonstop service to London Heathrow on March 29. The airline expanded further throughout the fall with new service to Little Rock on Oct. 6 and launched year-round, twice-daily flights to Santa Maria, California, on Oct. 15.

American operated daily seasonal flights between Phoenix and Fort Myers, Florida, from Nov. 20 to Dec. 3 and again from Dec. 18 to Jan. 6, as well as daily seasonal service between Phoenix and Sun Valley, Idaho, from Dec. 18 through April 6.

On Dec. 18, American added more improvements with new daily service to Fort Lauderdale and increased frequencies to Tampa Bay and Miami.

Frontier Airlines:
Frontier Airlines began twice-weekly service to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on March 7 and introduced three weekly flights to Seattle’s Paine Field on June 2. Growth continued into the fall with new three-times-weekly service to San Antonio that began Oct. 10, and new twice-weekly flights to Reno on Nov. 22 and Spokane on Nov. 23.

New International Service:
China Airlines made history on Dec. 3 with the launch of the first nonstop route between Phoenix and Taipei. The new service operates Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Additional Highlights:

  • Allegiant Air launched nonstop service to Pittsburgh on Feb. 7.
  • Southwest Airlines started redeye flights to Baltimore/Washington on Feb. 13.
  • Aeromexico returned to PHX with daily service to Mexico City on March 30.
  • In May, Air France’s Phoenix-to-Paris route reached its one-year anniversary mark, and the airline increased its flights to five per week.
  • Spirit Airlines reinstated service to Detroit on June 12.
  • Alaska Airlines added three-times-daily service to San Diego on Aug. 20.

Looking Ahead to 2026
STARLUX Airlines will begin nonstop service three times a week between Phoenix Sky Harbor and Taipei on Jan. 15.

Porter Airlines will offer its first daily nonstop transborder service between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Phoenix beginning Feb. 2 through April 19, marking the airline’s first-ever route from Vancouver to the U.S. The airline will also begin service three times a week from Ottawa, Ontario, to Phoenix from Feb. 7 through April 18, representing Porter’s first flights between Ottawa and PHX.

Frontier Airlines will add special flights three times a week between Phoenix and New Orleans starting Feb. 13 for Mardi Gras, and new nonstop service from Phoenix to Tennessee, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin and Nebraska beginning in March for spring break.

American Airlines will launch new seasonal nonstop service between Phoenix Sky Harbor and Anchorage from May 21 through Sept. 8.
