A Cool, Summer Escape

Looking to escape the summer heat? How about a trip to San Diego or Carlsbad? Earlier this year, American Airlines launched nonstop flights from Phoenix to Carlsbad, California. Carlsbad offers an array of activities for travelers. Here are some ideas:

If you have little ones, check out LEGOLAND®. Enjoy rides and interactive attractions. If you love aquariums, be sure to visit SEAL LIFE Aquarium.

A trip to Carlsbad wouldn’t be complete without hitting the beach. Carlsbad State Beach is a great option. Surfing and coastal walks are also popular.

If you’re planning ahead for next year, from March to May, check out the famous Flower Fields that offer more than 50 acres of colorful flowers.

Of course, Carlsbad also offers a number of golf courses, spas, and wonderful dining options. To learn more, visit visitcarlsbad.com.

As mentioned above, Alaska Airlines announced new nonstop service to San Diego starting Aug. 20. This is in addition to service offered by American, Frontier and Southwest. San Diego is well known for being a summer getaway for Phoenicians due to its beaches and cooler weather, but the area has so much to offer.

Visitors to San Diego can enjoy the San Diego Zoo, museums at Balboa Park, and catching a San Diego Padres game at Petco Park.

Other activities include walking through the Gaslamp Quarter and exploring shops and restaurants. Several walking tours are offered. Old Town gives visitors the opportunity to learn about some of the first California settlements. Oceanside offers a California Surf Museum where visitors can learn more about the sport. The USS Midway Museum is one of the United States’ longest-serving aircraft carriers. A visit here is not to be missed. Seaport Village nearby offers a nice little stroll. There’s kayaking in La Jolla, hiking throughout the region, and the opportunity to just catch some sun and surf at many local beaches. San Diego also offers many award-winning restaurants and unique shops.
