Taxiway U Bridge Deck Progresses, Buckeye Road Reopens to Traffic

Construction on the Taxiway Uniform project continues to make steady progress at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Crews have completed the span 2 bridge deck, which will eventually carry the future Taxiway U over Sky Harbor Boulevard and Buckeye Road. Work also continues on the retaining walls that will help guide the future realigned roads beneath the bridge, as well as on-site grading and utility relocations.

The reconstruction of Buckeye Road between Copperhead Drive and 25th Place is now complete, and the roadway has reopened to traffic.

On the airfield, nine of 11 new concrete aircraft parking pads have been completed as part of ongoing work on the East Air Cargo apron. These new pads will replace apron space affected by the future taxiway.

Crews have also begun interior refurbishment of Air Cargo Building A to prepare the facility for cargo tenants who will relocate due to the Taxiway U construction.

Once complete, Taxiway U will connect the north and south runways on the west end of the airfield, improving aircraft movement, reducing taxi times and supporting future airport growth. Construction is scheduled to continue through 2027.

For real-time updates and ongoing road closure information, download the Taxiway U app from Apple App Store or Google Play.
