Time and Place: A New Phoenix Airport Museum Art Exhibition

Tempe artist Martin Dimitrov finds inspiration close to home.

The new Phoenix Airport Museum exhibition, Time and Place, features more than 75 paintings highlighting the artist’s ongoing exploration of the desert environment around him, including his own backyard. Rather than working from a photographic reference, Dimitrov brings his canvases outside to paint each subject from direct experience.

Exhibition highlights include an immersive 12-foot-wide painting titled “Panoramic Peach” featuring views from his backyard at night, as well as a hyperrealistic, large-scale painting titled, “Portrait of a Lemon Tree” that took the artist several years to complete. Through each artwork, Dimitrov explores light, color and the passing of time through the act of painting.

Next time you fly, take a moment to check out this immersive exhibition in Terminal 4, Level 3, in 8 display cases on the east and west ends.
