Meet Charles Greenwald, a Longtime Navigator Volunteer

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the volunteer Navigator program at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. You can spot these helpful volunteers by their signature purple vests, shirts or blazers, always ready with a warm smile to assist travelers.

The Navigators work to make the airport experience faster, easier, and more enjoyable for every guest. They carry out this mission with genuine care and passion.

As part of the celebration for this milestone, we are featuring longtime volunteer Charles Greenwald. Originally from Philadelphia, Charles has dedicated nearly 22 years to the Navigator program, contributing more than 4,800 volunteer hours.

Before joining the Navigator team, Charles spent 14 years working for the Arizona state government. He served eight years in the U.S. Army and 22 years in the Air Force. His notable assignments include serving as an Air Traffic Control Tower Operator on the Iron Curtain border, managing flight operations and directing personnel and administration for base hospitals.

Charles has traveled to several countries both during his military service and later with his wife. Outside of volunteering, he enjoys attending Broadway shows and local movies, traveling and maintaining daily physical exercise.
