Art and Science at the Push of a Button

You can learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics at a new Phoenix Airport Museum display.

Have a few minutes before your flight? Head to Terminal 4, Level 3 (just west of the food court) to try our the Museum’s new interactive STEAM display, where you can activate ultraviolet light at the push of a button to watch real natural specimens glow.

Created in partnership with Arizona State University’s School of Earth and Space Exploration and the University’s Natural History Collection, the display explores fluorescence in nature through examples like lichen, rocks, moths, and scorpions—showing how their colors transform under ultraviolet light.

This hands-on experience is part of the Phoenix Airport Museum’s new art exhibition Fluoresce, featuring seven local artists whose paintings also shift and shine under black light. The exhibition is on view through January 2027.
