Phoenix Sky Harbor Celebrates Earth Month
It’s Earth Month at America’s Friendliest Airport®! During April, we’re focusing on environmental awareness, sustainability, and resiliency. As a leader in airport sustainability, Phoenix Sky Harbor aims to build a future that is smart, sustainable, and community focused. This month, we will be highlighting and amplifying the Phoenix Airport System’s ongoing sustainability efforts and goals through a series of events and online communications.
SOAR with STEAM
Phoenix Sky Harbor and Southwest Airlines welcomed students from the Wilson and Cartwright school districts to participate in activities, and learn about airplanes and the science of aviation. The day revolved around science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) topics with a focus on sustainability and the environment, as well as interactive activities that blend science with art. Students also got to visit and tour a Southwest Airlines plane and Southwest’s Maintenance Hangar. Thanks to all of the partners who participated.
Earth Day
On April 22, find Earth Day celebrations in the terminals and at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train® Station. Meet the Aviation Department’s Sustainability team, Navigator volunteers, representatives from the Water Services, Public Works and Public Transit departments, the city’s Office of Environmental Programs and Valley Metro. The events will feature eco-friendly giveaways, visits from mascots and the Navigator Buddies, music, and games for all.
Additional Sustainability Efforts
The City of Phoenix Aviation Department is committed to ensuring Phoenix Sky Harbor, along with Deer Valley and Goodyear airports are Future Friendly and enhance the surrounding communities. Last year, Phoenix Deer Valley Airport (DVT) and Phoenix Goodyear Airport (GYR) received Level 3 status in the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program for the reporting year 2024. Phoenix Sky Harbor has been certified at Level 4 through the ACA program since 2021.
