Sarah Demory Named AzAA Executive of the Year

The Arizona Airports Association (AzAA) has honored Assistant Aviation Director and Chief Operating Officer Sarah Demory with the prestigious Airport Executive of the Year award. This recognition celebrates exceptional leadership, a strong commitment to the aviation industry, and a passion for elevating airport operations across Arizona.

In her role, Sarah oversees the Aviation Facilities & Services, Operations, Public Safety and Security divisions, Aviation Fire and Police Operations, as well as the Phoenix Deer Valley and Goodyear airports. She provides strategic and operational leadership for critical day‑to‑day functions while advancing long‑term priorities such as safety, resilience, efficiency, and customer experience.

Her influence extends well beyond Phoenix. As a past President of AzAA, she has helped elevate the voice of Arizona’s airports, fostered professional development, and championed collaboration among aviation professionals statewide. Her commitment to mentorship and workforce development within the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and industry has supported the next generation of airport leaders.

AzAA leadership remarked during the awards reception, “This nominee’s leadership is described as collaborative and trust-based, building strong relationships across departments, agencies, airlines, tenants, and regional partners. Those relationships matter – especially when coordinating operational changes, safety initiatives or statewide advocacy. Her approach empowers teams while maintaining accountability and high performance.”

With more than 25 years of experience, Sarah’s background includes leadership roles at the Boise Airport, Seattle‑Tacoma International Airport, Omaha’s Eppley Airfield, and Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport. She holds an MBA from Creighton University, an MS and BBA in Aviation from the University of North Dakota, and a commercial pilot license with instrument and multi-engine ratings. She is also an Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.), AAAE Certified Airport Security Coordinator (ASC), and Airport Certified Employee (ACE) – Operations.
