Phoenix Airport Museum Shines During Museum Month

May is Museum Month, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is celebrating by putting the spotlight on the Phoenix Airport Museum’s exhibitions. Museum Month and International Museum Day on May 18 are recognized annually to increase awareness of the role of museums in communities and to promote cultural heritage.

The art in the airport has been a tradition since the 1960s and the arts program officially became a museum in 1988. Since then, the Phoenix Airport Museum has presented more than 500 exhibitions highlighting Arizona’s unique arts and culture. Today, there are more than 1,000 artworks in the Museum’s collection, including more than 40 exhibition display areas, with artworks and exhibitions located inside, outside, above and below.

New at PHX! Earlier this month, the Phoenix Airport Museum opened a new “Artist Spotlight” exhibition that features Arizona artist Aimee Ollinger. The exhibition showcases a selection of the artist’s paintings depicting abstract landscapes and is in Terminal 4, level 2 near door 23. The artist spotlight reflects the Museum’s ongoing initiative to elevate local emerging artists and make diverse artwork accessible to all.
