PHX Wraps Up a Successful Earth Month
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport marked Earth Month in April with activities that highlighted sustainability, education and community engagement. Throughout the month, the airport shared updates on its environmental goals and ongoing work across the Phoenix Airport System.
The month included the SOAR with STEAM event. In partnership with Southwest Airlines, Phoenix Sky Harbor welcomed students from Wilson Middle School and Estrella Middle School for hands‑on learning focused on science and aviation. Students explored STEAM activities with a sustainability theme, learned about airplanes and toured a Southwest aircraft and maintenance hangar.
Earth Day on April 22 brought another round of activities in the terminals and at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train® Station. The Sustainability team and partners from the Water Services Department, Public Works Department, Public Transit Department, the Office of Environmental Programs, PHX Navigators and Valley Metro welcomed travelers with eco‑friendly giveaways, mascots, Navigator Buddies, music and games designed to teach more about sustainability at the airport.
Earth Month offered an opportunity to highlight Phoenix Sky Harbor’s continued work to support energy savings, water conservation, recycling and environmentally friendly transportation. These efforts remain part of the airport’s long‑term commitment to a sustainable and community‑focused future.
