Start Your Engines and Jet Off to Indianapolis

Indiana’s capital city of Indianapolis has long been synonymous with the famous Indy 500, and while the race does play a major role in the city’s economy and tourism, the city has much more to offer.
Visitors can start their trips downtown where they will find an array of major attractions, parks, entertainment and restaurants. Monument Circle is a main focal point. From there, visitors can head to the three-mile Canal Walk which winds through White River State Park connecting with the downtown attractions.
While at White River State Park, there are several museums to explore including the Indiana State Museum and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. The Indianapolis Zoo is also right there. Additionally, Newfields is a 152-acre cultural campus with gardens, historic spaces and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. For the kiddos, don’t miss the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. It’s the world’s largest children’s museum with many exciting exhibitions and activities.
For sports fans, Indianapolis has many options depending upon the season. Catch a football game with the Indianapolis Colts, a basketball game with the Indiana Pacers, a baseball game with the Indianapolis Indians, and more. For racing fans, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500, is a must. While there, check out the museum to see historic race cars and learn about the people and stories behind the sport.
The city also offers a number of shopping and dining options. For a more local experience, explore Fountain Square, Broad Ripple Village or the restaurants and businesses along Indiana Avenue. Each neighborhood has its own personality and offers a different side of Indianapolis.
Planning to visit in autumn? About 60 miles south of the capital is Brown County known for it beautiful fall colors. Brown County State Park offers hiking opportunities, mountain biking and many scenic lookouts. The nearby town of Nashville, Indiana, offers local dining, shopping, art galleries, and distilleries.
