Taxiway U Project Surpasses 55% Completion Mark

September 15, 2026
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s major capital improvement, Taxiway U project, reached a key milestone this summer by surpassing 55% completion.
Two of the three spans of the new bridge that will carry Taxiway U over the airport’s main roadways are finished. The final span is scheduled for completion by summer 2027.
Several roadway changes have already taken place, and more are coming. This fall, eastbound Sky Harbor Boulevard traffic from Interstate 10 will shift below the new taxiway bridge. Buckeye Road also will be moving below the bridge. These will be the final new alignments for both roads. Westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard will shift below the bridge by late spring 2027.
The new taxiway will connect the north and south airfields on the west side of the airport and improve airfield safety and operations.
As construction continues, drivers should expect road restrictions and closures throughout the project area. To stay updated before your next trip to the airport, download the Taxiway U app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
