Earth Day and Sustainability Efforts

With the celebration of Earth Day this month, we couldn’t think of a better time to share some current facts from recent projects that show our commitment to sustainability.
- In our busiest day ever after hosting the Super Bowl this year, more than 200,000 visitors may have noticed our educational messages. More than 200 are placed throughout the terminals.
- The PHX Sky Train® recently extended service to the Rental Car Center, removing 72 buses from the roadway and earned Envision Gold Certification.
- The process to add 46 electric vehicles to the airport’s fleet has begun.
- Smart glass technology in our new concourse improves energy efficiency by 20% and the materials used in a featured Diamondhead Baffle ceiling was made from recycled water bottles.
- There are more than 360 publicly accessible recycling containers, and our compactors receive 1,800 tons of recyclable materials annually.
- Maintaining drought-tolerant plants and installing xeriscape landscaping saves more than $5 million per year.
