Experience Arizona Desert Animals Up Close at Phoenix Sky Harbor

Airport offers monthly activities to allow passengers to learn about and experience Arizona’s beauty and cultural diversity

PHOENIX – The Culture Corner at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is hosting a Learn & Go activity that will feature some of the Phoenix Zoo’s most notable animals from Arizona’s desert from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30.

The deserts of Arizona are full of life, and Phoenix Sky Harbor is excited to partner with educators from the Phoenix Zoo to offer an up-close opportunity for passengers to learn about and interact with some of Arizona’s remarkable desert creatures. The current lineup includes a tiger salamander, an Arizona pocket mouse, a desert tortoise, domestic rabbits, and a red-tailed hawk. This list is subject to change.

Launched in January as part of Phoenix Sky Harbor’s 90th anniversary initiatives, the Culture Corner is aimed at supporting the airport’s ongoing effort to enhance the travel experience for passengers, a key focus for America’s Friendliest Airport®.

The Culture Corner provides a place where passengers of all ages can quickly learn, observe, and participate in monthly interactive activities such as live art demonstrations, crafts, displays, readings, and other hands-on experiences.

Activities in recent months have featured calligraphy and paper folding with the Phoenix Sister Cities Taipei Committee; spoken word and hand-drumming for Black History Month; puppet making and airplane construction with the Arizona Heritage Center; Navajo weaving with the Heard Museum; traditional dancing, music, and games honoring Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month; and petroglyph creation paired with local archaeology education from the S’edav Va’aki Museum.

The Culture Corner is located post-security in Terminal 3, between Gates F3 and F4. All Culture Corner activities are free for airport customers. Learn more about the Culture Corner at skyharbor.com/CultureCorner.

Organizations interested in learning more or how to participate can contact Culture Corner staff at skyharbor@phoenix.gov.

Media are welcome to attend this event and should RSVP to skyharborPIO@phoenix.gov by 5 p.m. Monday, July 28.
