Phoenix Sky Harbor Accepting Donations for Workers Amid Government Shutdown
PHOENIX – As the partial government shutdown continues, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is accepting donations to support federal, frontline employees who are working without pay.
These employees play a vital role and are essential to the safe and secure operations at PHX. March is Phoenix Sky Harbor’s busiest month of the year, and the airport has seen increased passenger traffic. While the airport has maintained operations and has not seen significant increases in checkpoint wait times at this point, the prolonged shutdown is significantly impacting frontline employees and is expected to lead to increased callouts and wait times at PHX.
To help these critical team members who received a $0.00 paycheck on March 13, Phoenix Sky Harbor is asking for the public’s help in providing support.
Requested Items:
- Non-perishable, pre-packaged food that can be distributed during the airport’s 24-hour operation.
- Gift cards in denominations of $20 or less for gas and groceries (Fry’s, Walmart, Costco, QuikTrip, etc.) No generic Visa, American Express or Mastercard gift cards.
- Hygiene items and baby essentials (diapers/wipes/formula, etc.)
- NO cash is accepted
Drop-Off Details:
- Compassion Corner – located pre-security in Terminal 4 near the elevator bank next to the B Security Checkpoint. The Compassion Corner is open daily from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. Parking will be validated.
The donation center will be open until the partial government shutdown ends, and distribution of items is based upon inventory and while supplies last.
