Air & Climate
In a region as hot and dry as Phoenix, adaptability is key. Temperature extremes, unexpected weather and poor air quality can all affect how we operate. That’s why it’s important for us to reduce our emissions and continuously plan for changing climate conditions while strengthening the systems that keep air travel safe and reliable. By promoting sustainable ground transportation, investing in zero emission and energy efficient technologies, sourcing renewable energy and pursuing long-term climate strategies, we’re preparing our airport system for the future. This means a smoother, safer travel experience and cleaner air for the communities around our airports.
Highlights
- We’re tracking carbon emissions, consistently reducing our carbon footprint and planning for a net-zero future by implementing our Roadmap to Net Zero Carbon, while earning Level 4 – Transformation under the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program.
- Our all-electric PHX Sky Train® has replaced natural gas-powered shuttle buses, providing sustainable and reliable mass transit linking the light rail station, parking lots, airport terminals and the rental car center.
- While alternative fuel vehicles comprise a significant portion of our fleet, we are transitioning to zero emission electric vehicles, where feasible, and strategically installing chargers to support the transition of vehicles and equipment to electric.
- We’re evaluating climate risks and upgrading our facilities, infrastructure and operations to adapt to extreme weather conditions and climate hazards.
- Our Energy focus area outlines related practices for reducing energy consumption and pursuing renewable energy.
