PHX Green Business Partner Program
Program Overview
The Green Business Partner Program allows our business partners to voluntarily participate in a range of initiatives and receive recognition for their sustainable efforts. Participants in the program are encouraged to implement sustainable practices that align with our sustainability focus areas, such as energy efficiency measures, waste reduction strategies, responsible sourcing practices, water conservation efforts, and community engagement. In addition to the sustainable benefits, active participants will be recognized as leaders in sustainable business practices, further enhancing their reputation and attracting environmentally conscious customers.
The program is currently open to certain businesses operating at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) with future expansion to include additional businesses as well as Phoenix Deer Valley (DVT) and Phoenix Goodyear (GYR) Airports. PHX businesses currently eligible:
- Passenger Airlines
- Cargo Airlines
- Rental Car Companies
- Restaurants
- Retailers
- Fixed Based Operators
- Hangar Tenants
The program is coordinated by Airport sustainability staff and consists of the following elements:
Online application for business partners to identify sustainability best practices followed.
- On-site visit with Airport sustainability staff to tour facilities and review the application.
- Upon certification, the business partner will receive recognition reflecting their certification at the appropriate tier – Green, Silver, or Gold.
- Annual renewal allows business partners to identify new sustainable initiatives and best practices, potentially qualifying for a different tier.
With this program, we are inviting our business partners to join us on our sustainability journey. We are optimistic this effort will inspire collaboration and partnerships to meet our shared sustainability goals. Together, we can achieve remarkable progress in creating a more sustainable future for all.
Green Business Partner Spotlight
Southwest Airlines
A founding member of the Green Business Partner Program, Southwest Airlines has elevated its commitment to sustainability by achieving Gold Tier certification. Additionally, 55% of its ground support equipment at Sky Harbor is now electric. More specifically 90% of their bag tugs have been electrified, significantly reducing carbon emissions. Through its Gate Readiness program, the airline cuts fuel burn and greenhouse gases. Southwest also champions sustainable procurement with Ecovadis, and recently introduced new compostable bamboo and paper cups for in-flight hot and cold beverages. Beyond environmental efforts, the airline has also awarded $4 million in grants to help employees visit hospitalized loved ones—demonstrating a deep commitment to both people and planet.
