Land Stewardship

Our airports are more than terminals and runways. They span over thousands of acres of desert land that we’re committed to managing responsibly. In a region known for its ecological richness, we take a thoughtful approach to preserving native landscapes and maintaining safe, functional open spaces. At the same time, we design our landscapes to prevent wildlife conflicts near airfields and reduce maintenance needs with smart irrigation. When you travel through our airports, you’ll notice more natural desert surroundings that use less water and reflect the environment we live in.

Highlights:

  • We've transitioned to drought-tolerant, xeriscaping to save water and restore desert ecology.

  • With over 28,000 plants and 6,000 trees we prioritize biodiversity in how design, plant and maintain our landscaping.

  • Our on-site Sky Garden nursery supplies a portion of the plants and supports the success of transplanting efforts.

  • Smart irrigation systems are in use that monitor weather conditions and only water when necessary while also detecting leaks.
