Aviation Business Lab

A six‑week, academy‑style program designed to empower small businesses entering the airport concessions marketplace.

The Aviation Business Lab supports small businesses that are new to the aviation environment by offering guided instruction, interactive learning, and direct insights from industry experts. Participants gain a practical understanding of how airport concessions work and what it takes to successfully pursue business opportunities at our airports.

This program is designed to equip you with the tools, knowledge, and connections to confidently navigate the aviation marketplace.

Disclaimer: Participation in this program is not required to do business at our airports and does not guarantee the award of a contract or business partnership.

Program Eligibility

To participate in the Aviation Business Lab, firms must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a small business as defined by applicable size standards.

  • Be new to the airport concessions environment (no prior airport concession contracts).

  • Demonstrate interest in pursuing future concessions opportunities at our airports.

  • Commit to meeting the program attendance policy.

  • Satisfy any additional requirements listed in the application.

Class Format

  • Sessions take place Wednesdays from 5 – 7 p.m.

  • In‑person participation is required for the Welcome Session and Graduation.

  • In‑person attendance is highly encouraged for all other sessions, though virtual participation is available.

  • To meet program completion requirements and attend Graduation, participants may have one absence.

Tentative Program Schedule & Topics

August 26 - Session 1: Welcome Orientation & Certification Basics
Kickoff session covering program expectations, small business certifications, and foundational requirements.

September 2 – Session 2: Understanding & Preparing for Prime Partnerships
Learn how prime concessionaires operate and how small businesses can position themselves for partnership opportunities.

September 9 – Session 3: Access to Capital & Financial Resources
Explore funding options, lending programs, and financial tools to support business readiness. This session is hosted in partnership with the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Capital Readiness Program.

September 16 – Session 4: Aviation Procurement Process & Airport Tour
Understand procurement steps and experience an in‑person tour to see airport operations firsthand.

September 23 – Session 5: Operational Readiness & Insight from Concessionaires
Gain practical knowledge from existing airport businesses on daily operations, staffing, logistics, and customer experience.

September 30 – Session 6: Program Graduation + Fast Pitch
Celebrate completion, share your business vision, and connect with airport partners during a fast‑pitch showcase.
