Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop Returns
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport hosted its award-winning Dementia Friendly Air Travel Workshop on July 16, continuing the airport’s commitment to assisting passengers with dementia and their caregivers in navigating the airport experience.
The initiative, launched in 2021, offers specialized programming to support travelers with dementia. Since the first in-person workshop in 2022, the program has grown in popularity and provides valuable guidance on preparing for air travel, moving through security screening, and navigating the terminal.
This summer’s workshop began with welcoming remarks from Aviation Director Chad Makovsky and offered both in-person and virtual attendance options. Representatives from the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, airlines, TSA, and other airport partners shared information, answered questions and provided tips to help make the travel experience smoother for attendees.
The positive impact of the program has drawn interest from other airports that are exploring similar efforts to better serve passengers with dementia. Sky Harbor remains dedicated to enhancing accessibility and ensuring every passenger’s journey is as seamless as possible.
