PHX Celebrates Disability Independence Day
Disability Independence Day, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 and celebrates accessibility, resilience and freedom of movement.
Leading up to this day, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport highlighted some of its airport accessibility amenities through social media posts and an in-person gathering to increase awareness about its commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive travel experience for all passengers.
PHX showed appreciation for the airport’s passenger assistance providers by hanging a “We Appreciate You” banner above their offices. The providers were also gathered and recognized for their service and were each given a “We Appreciate You” pin to wear on their lanyards.
Passenger assistance is a key part of the wide range of accessibility amenities available at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Passenger assistance is offered by the airport’s airline partners through vendors ABM and Prospect. Their work ensures passengers get to their gate and other airport amenities with less stress. Travelers can request passenger assistance when booking their flight.
PHX also highlighted its Compassion Corner and the TSA Cares service. These services are designed to ensure that travelers with visible and hidden disabilities receive the support they need to have a smooth and stress-free experience at the airport.
Phoenix Sky Harbor is proud to be one of the most accessible airports in the world for people with physical and hidden disabilities. From wayfinding assistance to sensory-friendly spaces, the airport continues to expand its inclusive amenities to meet the diverse needs of all passengers.
