PHX celebrates 40 years with Southwest Airlines, Airline Wins Notable Award

Jan. 31, 2022 Phoenix Sky Harbor marked 40 years of service with Southwest Airlines. On the last day of January in 1982, the airline launched service to not only Phoenix, but San Diego and Las Vegas as well. According to the airline, Phoenix has become a top focus city over the past 40 years. Eight new gates, occupied by Southwest, are set to open in Terminal 4 this year.

Spirit has started daily direct service from Phoenix to Las Vegas. They are the fourth carrier to serve fly direct to Las Vegas.

Allegiant will start flying direct twice weekly to Knoxville on Feb. 16. Knoxville is a new market for Phoenix.

Aviation Business Summit Returning Virtually

Aviation Business Summit Returning Virtually

The City of Phoenix Aviation Department is hosting a virtual Aviation Business Summit on Feb. 22 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., with a bonus Bidding Bootcamp workshop on Feb. 23 hosted in partnership with the Equal Opportunity Department and the Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors of America.

The two-day event is designed to give interested businesses the opportunity to learn, network, and understand the tools available for doing business with Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports.

Some of the topics covered at this year’s event will include a review of upcoming business opportunities, information on our procurement process, a review of the different certification programs, and training on how to navigate our badging process.

The event will also have opportunities to network and interact virtually with City staff, community partners and businesses partners through virtual exhibitor booths.
